Vitamin D can be bought over the counter from your local pharmacist or health food shop. People at risk of Vit D deficiency are those under 5, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, people who have low exposure to sunlight, People with darker skin and people over 65.

New guidance from the CCG is that GP's can no longer issue prescriptions for any medications that can be bought over the counter, such as Paracetamol, Calpol, Aspirin, or hay fever medications like Cetirizine. This includes both adults and children.

Please be aware that Smear test results are currently taking 4-6 weeks to process by the laboratory. You will be sent letters directly from them. The results do not come to the surgery first.

Doctors

Dr Jacqueline Koo (Senior Partner) (f)

Dr Koo joined the practice in November 2004. She qualified at University College Cork and is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners, Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and holds the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Dr Koo is a GP with a Special Interest in Dermatology.

Dr Ruwani Siriwardena (f)

Dr Siriwardena qualified at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. She is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners. She also holds the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the Diploma of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and the Masters in Public Health from University College Dublin. She is the practice clinical lead for older people.

Dr Samantha Cowee (f)

Dr Samantha A Plagaro Cowee. MBBS equiv; FRCS Edinburgh; MRCGP; Diploma in Sports Medicine Bath University.
After qualifying as a doctor in Tenerife in 1993, Dr Cowee came over to the UK and has been working in the NHS since. She spent many years in hospital medicine, in particular A&E medicine. It was back in 2003 that she made the change into General practice and has remained in this field since.
Her specialist interests are the musculoskeletal system, sport injuries and more recently acupuncture specially for musculoskeletal problems.

Dr Paul Cairns (m)

Dr Cairns grew up in Cambridge and went to Birmingham University Medical School.
He did a series of A+E and surgical jobs in the West Midlands, North Wales, and Cambridge, before commencing GP training in Bury St Edmunds. Dr Cairnsqualified as a GP in 2010.
He is a Recognised Clinical Teacher at Cambridge University and has been actively involved with the teaching of Graduate Students. He continues to enjoy performing Minor Surgery at MMP.

Dr Anita Korouth (f)

Dr Korouth joined the Practice in October 2016.

Dr Richard Wilson (m)

Graduated from Glasgow University 1985.


Dr Wilson worked as GP partner in North East Essex for 27 years and moved to the Cambridge area as his wife, and children work here. In Essex Dr Wilson was a GP trainer and Programme Director for Specialist Training of Junior Doctors on the GP training scheme in Colchester. He took partial retirement this year, but continues to enjoy working as a GP two days per week at Monkfield Medical Practice.
