COVID/Flu Vaccinations

Spring 2026 Covid Vaccination Program

COVID‑19 has not gone away, and protection from previous vaccines or past infection reduces over time. The NHS runs a spring vaccination program each year to top up protection for people at highest risk of serious illness. The spring dose is recommended because it can:

  • Reduce the risk of severe illness, hospital admission, and death
  • Boost immunity that has faded since a previous vaccine or infection
  • Help people recover more quickly if they do catch COVID‑19
  • Provide updated protection as the virus continues to change

Eligible cohorts COVID-19

The government has accepted Joint Committee Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advice regarding the eligible cohorts for the spring 2026 vaccination programme. The announced and authorised eligible cohorts for COVID-19 vaccination are:

  • Individuals aged 75 years and over (including individuals who turn 75 years old by 30 June 2026).
  • Residents in a care home for older adults (as defined through CQC registration), irrespective of the individual’s age.
  • Individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed (as defined in the immunosuppression row of tables 3 and/or 4 in the COVID-19 chapter of the Green Book. We will be doing ADULTS ONLY

The practice will be delivering the Spring COVID-19 vaccinations to our eligible adult patients on 16th & 23rd April. We will also be contacing our housebound patients to book visits during the same time. We will be sending out direct booking links to all patients within the criteria. At this appointment and in line with the contract we will be offering co-administration to those eligible for the RSV vaccination program as well.

We will contact our house bound patients to book in during this timeframe too.

We will monitor uptake and arrange further clinics as required.

We have been allocated the Moderna vaccine Spikevax for our first two clinics.

Please watch out for further clinics that will follow once we have an understanding of uptake.
